Black Walnut Crotch Platter

This platter of black walnut is about 12" diameter and 1.75" tall.  The feathering pattern in the grain is absolutely stunning, making you feel the internal stresses that developed as the tree grew with twin trunks.  The rim has a small roll on it to enhance tactile sense.  This can be used as as serving tray or as a plate to eat directly off.  Of course, the feathering is eye-catching when this piece is on display. The platter is finished with food safe oils and wax.  The tree was growing in Doylestown, PA before it was taken down due to disease.  The bottom is signed by the artist along with the wood species.
